Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Kevin is a tall, two-position player who showed similar abilities on the mound and at 1B at the Under Armour Pre-Season All-American event. Glove work in the infield was consistent and he displayed solid arm strength as well. Prepped some with the feet pre-pitch. With the bat, Kevin gets loaded up well and uses his lower half effectively. Contact was consistent. He is a bit narrow in his stance and his bat speed needs to quicken. Kevin changes speeds well on the mound. He's around the plate with all three pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot. Tempo on the mound is excellent and he pitches to contact. Fastball has some run to it and he kept it down in the zone consistently working between 80 and 81 mph. The breaking ball is early and will be better when he releases it out in front consistently. Changeup is for strikes but he tips it some by slowing his arm down. Would like to see him stay taller on the back leg to create more of a downhill plane to his pitches. As he continues to get stronger, he should see steady improvement in all areas of his game.

07/23/2012 - 2012 Team One Northeast Showcase Kevin is a thin, projectable 1B who also pitches. Defensively, he shows smooth actions and knows how to play through the baseball, along with some nice life on his throws. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to get a better feel for fielding the ball out in front. At the plate, he has a square setup and short stride that allows his hands to direct and level to contact. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to create a consistent load to help him get some separation. On the mound, he has easy actions and maintains a quiet head throughout his delivery, allowing him to attack the zone. His abilities on the mound should continue to develop as he learns to create some explosion with his lower half. As a 2014 graduate, Kevin has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Kevin is a tall and thin two-way player as a LHP/OF who graduates in 2014. On the mound, he delivers 3 different pitches from a 3/4 arm slot, and loose arm action. He is balanced, stays in-line, and maintains level shoulders. His CH is his best off-speed pitch which shows arm-side run. If Magee can get more extension and keep his eyes on his target during his delivery, mound effectiveness will improve. Defensively in the OF, Kevin has active feet and good hands. He makes accurate throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Offensively, he shows a tall setup with high hands and he takes a level swing. He needs to use more of his lower 1/2, get a better load, and shorten his swing path for hitting abilities to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
