Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City McCray is a hardworking player with a positive attitude and plus makeup and continues to show as RHP/3B at the event. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level where he has improved his abilities and shows a big upside. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date; topping out at 89 mph. Fastball showed a range of 83-89 mph and he hides the ball well. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 10/4 shape with sharp / late bite. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitch. Defensive grade are solid as he shows smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying soft / clean hands as he makes the routine plays. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through balls more and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with rhythm and displays solid power. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to keep his hands inside the ball to utilize all fields.

06/16/2013 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL KeWayne is a tall, solid, 2-way player who plays 3B and RHP. Defensively, KeWayne has sure hands, active feet, and he fields out front in a low position. He covers ground well, makes plays, and throws with accuracy and carry to his target. A more smooth backhand and long arm action will help defense improve. On the mound, KeWayne has a long / free arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He keeps his shoulders level, lands in a square position, and finishes completely. Mound effectiveness can improve with more eyes on target, and sharper off-speed. At the plate, KeWayne has a square set-up, good balance, and he sits in patiently. He makes consistent contact and uses his lower 1/2 well. Hitting can improve with a shorter swing and better timing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
