Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Kimo is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect. At 1B, Kimo works off the bag well and picks balls out of the dirt. He presents a low/early glove, works from the ground up, and has a clean exchange when throwing. Continuing to work on his first step quickness will allow him to be more aggressive to the ball. At the plate, Kimo starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and creates separation in his load. He uses the backside and stays balanced through contact. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and keep a middle approach well keep the barrel on plane with the ball. On the bump, Kimo gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends through his delivery. Developing a secondary pitch, such as a changeup, will help offset his fastball. Kimo made several adjustments over the week and we hope to see his progress in the future.

03/18/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Kimo is a young, lefty, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, Kimo has good balance, a short arm action, and he separates on time. He has a controlled landing, a good finish, and lands in square position toward home. At 1B, Kimo has playable hands and feet, he uses 2 hands, and he fields in good rhythm. Offensively, Kimo has a tall set-up, he tracks the ball well, and flashes a flat bat through the zone. He has a middle of the field approach and makes consistent contact. Kimo can improve overall skills with work on the following.

1. Release
2. Finish
3. Off-speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
