07/24/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One KJ is an athletic C with a hose behind the plate. (97 mph raw velo) Behind the plate KJ sets up in an athletic and low stance with quiet and strong glove receiving pitches. His secondary is athletic as he gains ground towards 2B with quick and clean exchanges showing a 1.89-1.91 pop time. His blocking is strong with quick feet as he creates good angles centering the ball in front of him. Hitting, KJ shows good pop with gap to gap power. He has controlled actions firing his lower half through getting the barrel on plane with explosive bat speed. At the Southwest tournament KJ even pitched showing an 88-90 mph velo on the bump. KJ is an advanced catcher for his age that continues to develop high level skills and will only continue to grow.

05/26/2019 - College PREP - Keizer (Salem), OR KJ is a powerful backstop with a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.98. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remain in the low 1.80 range. At the plate, KJ has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel (83 mph exit velocity) as he crushes it to the gaps. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches / pro scouts.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
