07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Kody continues to show plus abilities both offensively and defensively that will play well at the next level. At 3B, he moves well laterally, displaying range and attacks ground balls, playing through well as he displays soft / sure hands. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick / aggressive and works through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he shows good leadership abilities with a solid work ethic.

01/20/2014 - College PREP - Phoenix, AZ Kody showed at 3B and in the OF for the first time at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a square / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level direct swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off his bat when centered and he shows a solid feel for the barrel. Currently, he projects slightly better defensively at 3B but has potential in the OF. At 3B, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range. He attacks ground balls and present soft /sure hands well out front as he makes the plays. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls more and improves footwork to throw.

09/22/2013 - National Tryout - Phoenix, AZ Kody continues to progress in his game. Offensively he has made great strides through a tall stance and solid base. He lets the ball travel into the zone and drives it to all fields. Working on his rhythm/timing will help his hitting abilities to continue to climb. At the hot corner, Kody works well pre-pitch and moves around the ground ball. He shows quick hands and good instincts which is beneficial when playing 3B. In the OF, Lewis takes good routes/angles and works behind the fly-ball. He has a clean exchange and hits his target in the chest. Kody has a solid all-around skill-set who should have success this upcoming season.

01/21/2013 - National Tryout - Tucson, AZ Lewis showed as a 3B at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to improve foot quickness. He works to square balls up and plays through with his body displaying smooth actions. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit on building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Kody shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through the ball at contact, flashing extension. He makes consistent contact mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition in Arizona Kody is a big, strong 1B that will graduate in 2015. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a solid receiver, displaying clean hands. He consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of dirt, saving throws. Arm action is loose, easy with accuracy on his throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Lewis displays a solid setup with balance / rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, showing a feel for the barrel with ball jumping off when centered. At the event, he was 6 for 7 with 2 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and shows solid instincts for the game. With 3 years to further develop, Kody has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
