08/18/2019 - College PREP - Providence, RI Kolbie is a tall RHP/2B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Kolbie shows good balance and throws with intent. He works with a two pitch mix. Breaking ball is sharp with 11-5 break. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Kolbie improve as a pitcher. In the field, Kolbie shows active footwork and uses his speed to cover ground well (7.37 60 time). He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a quick exchange and shows good arm strength on his throws (83mph raw velo). Kolbie can improve defensively by attacking the ball more aggressively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load well and takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid contact to his pull side. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help Kolbie improve as a hitter. Overall, Kolbie is a impressive prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

11/18/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Marlborough (Boston), MA Kolbie continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, pop times showed in the 2.30 range with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-70 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking. Control is solid as throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but will benefit by getting down sooner. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and throws from a ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed a range of 69-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Changeup shows good arm side run throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Kolbie is a tall, lean two-way prospect with a high baseball IQ who is currently more advanced behind the plate. His calling card is control on the mound, as he dots his pitches to all corners of the zone and consistently works the black to put hitters away. He shows excellent poise on the mound with a commanding presence that never wavers when things go bad. He has great feel for pitching with a clean, repeatable delivery, an idea of how to sequence pitches and the ability to shut down the running game with varied looks. Behind the plate, his feet work efficiently to move side to side and get to any pitch in the dirt. His hands work well to receive, exchange and release quickly to make accurate throws to his target to cut down runners (2.3 second pop time). Sitting lower in his setup will allow him to present a lower target to pitchers and get down quicker to block. At the dish, this RHH has a square, athletic setup with an activated load and on time stride. He keeps the barrel in the zone and shows good bat to ball skills to use all fields effectively for base hits. Kolbie is an intriguing prospect who we look forward to watching as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
