12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Kolby is an athletic and strong 2019 Catching prospect that was eager to learn. Behind the dish, Kolby creates momentum in his lower half and has a strong arm. He needs to continue to have a clean exchange and a quick release when throwing. Being in a balanced primary position will allow him to present a lower target and work behind the ball. When blocking he needs to lead with his glove and try to control the ball with his chest. Improving hip mobility will allow to block laterally more consistently. At the plate, Kolby starts in a squared stance, creates rhythm in his hands, and gets his front foot down on time. He has a compact swing but needs to continue to create more hip rotation in order to drive the ball to all fields. Kolby will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

05/26/2018 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Kolby is a solid, strong catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed a range of 2.10-2.25 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Kolby has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
