ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Kolby continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.30. At the plate, power potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / sure but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 67-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

10/08/2017 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Kolby is a strong RHP/3B prospect who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Kolby shows a clean arm action and extends through on his release. He keeps the ball down in the zone and controls his pitches well. He has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph. Breaking ball sits from 58-60mph with 11-5 break. Changeup ranges from 64-66mph with tailing action as he throws with fastball arm speed. Kolby can improve as a pitcher by maintaining center balance as he gathers over the rubber. In the field, Kolby shows active footwork and covers ground well when ranging to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball with firm hands. Kolby can improve defensively by quickening his exchange to throw. At the plate, this switch hitter shows well from both sides of the plate. He sets up in a tall stance and takes aggressive swings. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Kolby can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. Overall, Kolby is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
