Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Kolten is an athletic and hard working 2-way prospect that was eager to learn. At 1B, Kolten is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and works from the ground up. He has proper footwork off the bag, he picks the ball well, and he knows his positioning on the field. At the plate, Kolten starts in a tall stance, he loads his hands back, and attacks the inside part of the ball. He needs to continue to loading on time and he looks to drive the ball through the middle part of the field. On the bump, Kolten gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and rides is back side downhill. He commands his fastball and has a medium break on his curveball. Kolten will continue to improve with experience.

09/15/2019 - Accelerated Interactive Video Program - Boise, ID Kolten is an athletic 1B/LHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. In the field, Kolten shows active footwork and fields in a low position. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance with center balance. He is smooth getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact to all fields. On the mound, Kolten shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 67mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 56-59mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits from 51-54mph. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Lateral range
2. Play through ball
Hitting
1. Lower leg kick
2. More extension
Pitching
1. Balance point
2. Looser arm action

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
