Official Scouting Report

02/12/2017 - College PREP - Monticello, IA Korby showed at 1B for the first time at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved his hitting abilities through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and explosive as he works through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. Feet are active as he attacks balls, playing through well. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally, covering ground. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Korby is a big/thick kid with a strong lower half, he will graduate in 2017 and is a Catcher and RHP. Behind the plate he has strong/firm hands and active feet but he needs to watch stabbing at the ball when receiving. Will also need to adjust his setup as he tends to be too high and stiff. When blocking he is not afraid to stick his nose in and get dirty but will need to sure up his technique as he does leave some holes. He has good arm strength and throws with accuracy but his release needs to be shorter and quicker. On the mound he has a good backside, he is in-line and he uses his front side well. He needs to soften up his front side a little (upright and stiff) on finish and he tends to throw across his body. At the plate Korby displayed an athletic setup, short/square stride, centered balance, good bat speed, he makes hard contact with short/on plane swing path and he has very good power. He needs to develop a fluid rhythm, smoother load and use his lower half more. Korby is a tough/durable young catcher who is raw but has potential. If he cleans up his fundamentals he has the ability to be a stand-out player.

08/14/2011 - Interactive Video Program - River Forest (Chicago), IL Korby is an athletic, RHP / INF with a solid build. On the mound, Korby has a long / arm action, a controlled balance point, and good glove side lead. He has on-time separation, level shoulders, and good direction toward home. Korby keeps a still head and with size his size, he projects a bright future. In the INF, Korby has firm hands, decent feet, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has a clean exchange and he throws with a strong arm with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Korby has a tall set-up, a short stride, and good bat speed. He has a level swing, he makes consistent contact, and he makes okay use of his lower 1/2. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following. Pitching 1. Finish 2. Control 3. Long toss Defense 1. Lower approach 2. Attack ball more aggressively 3. Quicken feet Offense 1. Loosen grip 2. Shorten swing 3. More extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
