01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Kordell is a talented athlete who continues to progress on the diamond. In the OF, he works lightly on the ball of his feet and covers ground right and left. He secures the ball with 2-hands, has a clean transfer and fires the ball accurately into his target. At the plate, this righty steps into the box with an athletic/relaxed setup with good balance. He jumps on pitches he likes, barrels the ball up and drives it on a line. The ball jumps when centered with an exit velocity of 88 mph. Spencer also has the ability to get on the mound and compete. Mechanics are sound and delivery is repeatable with a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works the ball in and out and challenges hitters to swing the bat. FB still sits in the upper 70's while breaking ball has 10/4 shape with early action. Spencer has the tools that will translate well into the next level.

04/09/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Plano (DFW), TX Kordell continues to show as a prospect on the diamond and has improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a superior runner at 6.56. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He is aggressive, works to get behind balls, and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Arm strength is outstanding with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry through his target. At the plate, hitting / power potential are now well above average through an athletic / squared setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He maintains eyes on target and has good rhythm. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows good cutting action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Kordell has the makings of a special type player as he continues to progress his game.

12/20/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Kordell is a hardworking, coachable player that continues to show steady progress in his baseball tools. In the OF, he utilizes his quick / athletic feet in taking proper routes / angles to track down balls. He reads balls well off the bat with hands / feet working well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, and throws accurately. At the plate, hands are loose and work through a direct swing path, and he utilizes all fields. Power grade will continue to increase as he works to incorporate his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, he shows a simple / repeatable delivery with fastball showing in the low 70s. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break and he throws a split finger with tumbling action. He mixes his pitches well, shows plus control, and does a nice job of holding runners.

12/06/2015 - College PREP - Crowley, TX Kordell is an athletic R/R 2-way player as an OF/RHP. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls to his right and left with speed (60 yard dash in 6.90). He works into position behind the ball, secures it with 2-hands and makes strong throws with carry into his target. Offensively, Kordell shows a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. He fires the barrel at pitches he likes, squaring the ball up and driving it to the gaps. He creates extension through contact and finishes balanced. On the mound, Spencer has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot and clean/free arm action. FB ranges from 72-74 mph while while slight arm-side run. Curveball has 10/4 shape with 'slider' like spin - 64-66 mph. Finishing with more extension on his follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. A 2019 grad - this young prospect has the skill-set that will provide success on the diamond. He has a bright future ahead of him and we're excited to see him progress in the upcoming years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
