11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Kurt Eckert is a 2016 graduate who plays 3rd base and also pitches. In the infield Kurt throws from a low 3/4 arm slot. He shows a controlled approach with his footwork and takes good angles. Kurt needs to be more fluid with his glove and have a better fielding position. He can sometimes be late with his glove causing him to flip rather than have a nice setup and position when fielding. On the mound Kurt is a right handed pitcher who has a good mound presence and showed his ability to throw strikes. On the mound he changes his arm slot to over the top which allows him to be more consistent. He has a nice rhythm and good timing with his seperation of his hands and this allows him to have a nice delivery. He finishes straight up so he will need to work on his finish to become more athletic. At the plate Kurt is a right handed hitter with an athletic set up, keeps his hands back on his load, and has a short stride. He shows good balance at the plate with a level path to the ball. He has very good fundamentals, but sometimes will drag his bat through the zone causing weak contact. Kurt is a great kid who is very coachable and wants to learn the game. With more reps and consistency he can become a nice player with more confidence.
