Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

12/20/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Kyle showed improvements in the INF during his time at Pirate City. Defensively, Kyle has soft / sure hands, good actions, and he funnels the ball well. He has athletic movements, works the double play well, and throws with a fluid arm action to 1st base. To improve his defensive scores, Kyle can work on being more aggressive in his actions (getting rid of the ball quicker and eliminating the glove pat) but the natural athletic movements are apparent. On the mound, Kyle showed a FB with arm side run, he spots it well, and he shows the ability to field his position. Offensively, Kyle quick hands, good balance, and a consistent bat path. He swings in good rhythm, and uses his lower 1/2 well. Staying through the ball and using his lower half more while staying athletic throughout the swing will help his good hitting scores continue to improve. Kyle is a respectful player and will make a good addition to a college program following high school.

10/20/2013 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Kyle is a lean 2B that will graduate in 2015. He utilizes his athletic feet well in attacking ground balls and plays through well, displaying soft /sure hands. Actions are clean / smooth and he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and present hands more out front. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Decker shows a crouched / squared athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he learns to keep his hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Kyle has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
