09/26/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Hurt's combination of stuff and feel for pitching places him among the top right-handed pitchers in the 2017 class. He commanded his fastball to both sides of plate at 90-92 with arm side life and some sink. His changeup was his best secondary offering. He threw a high volume of strikes with it in the 78-81 mph range, and turned it over for diving sink. His breaking ball was 73-75 with 10-4 shape from his three-quarters arm angle, with the effectiveness coming more from his ability to use the pitch than on the action. His arm worked well back and through, and fit with his somewhat upright delivery to produce downward action on his fastball and changeup. Overall, a young right-hander with command of two plus pitches and feel for a developing third pitch.

07/17/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 3 Kyle is a big/solid kid who is a RHP/1B. He has fluid/loose arm action, very good arm strength with carry on his ball and he is accurate to his target. On the mound Kyle displayed good arm action, control, delivery, balance and rhythm. He needs to make sure he is not overthrowing, bend on finish and use his legs more. In the infield Kyle has soft/clean hands, active/efficient footwork, he takes good angles and he has a controlled approach. He needs to work on his agility/footwork/quickness and get lower in his fielding position. At the plate Kyle has an athletic setup, hands back load, centered balance, lower half gets through, he has a short swing path and explosive bat speed. He needs to keep his head still but overall Kyle is a very solid hitter. Kyle showed a lot of potential at camp and if he continues to work hard he should be a player to watch in the future.

08/10/2011 - Interactive Video Program - La Jolla, CA Kyle is a tall, thick, RHP / 1st baseman with a good pitchers frame. On the mound, Kyle has a loose arm action, a tall balance point, and smooth separation. He keeps a still head, level shoulders, and he works on a downhill plane. Kyle has good direction toward home and he competes in the zone. At 1st base, Kyle has firm hands, active feet, and good pre-pitch actions. He makes plays, keeps the ball in front, and he throws with accuracy and average strength to his target. Offensively, Kyle has a square set-up, a proper load, and a short stride. He has good balance, fast bat speed, and he attacks the ball aggressively. Kyle swings in good rhythm, he can work the ball gap to gap, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Kyle can improve overall abilities by working on the following.

Pitching
1. More glove side lead
2. Finish / bend
Defense
1. Lighten feet
2. Field further out in front
3. Play lower to ground
Offense
1. More direct hands to ball
2. Level off swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
