01/21/2019 - College PREP - Omaha, NE Kyson continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active and he gains ground in working in line to his target. Pop times showed in the 2.06 range with accuracy and zip (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup with a soft glove that sticks ball in the zone. Blocking skills are solid as he utilizes his body well in centering balls out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

06/16/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Kyson is a catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show in the 2.30 range with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, he shows a squared with balance setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and work through swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 2 years to further develop, Kyson has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
