01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Laiten is a tall, solid and athletic LHP/1B who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are excellent as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are firm and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. At the plate he continues shine, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with near pro level power potential through an athletic setup. He has strength in his swing and he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm strength is at a pro level as indicated by his top velocity of 88 mph. Fastball shows a range of 83-88 mph on a downhill plane with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Laiten has a tremendous upside on the diamond and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his abilities on the mound, possibly as a two-way guy.
