11/05/2009 - Pirate City Select Training Janda continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved to slightly above average as he showed the ability to make throws from the deepest part of the OF. Lateral movement is a plus as he displayed good range in running down balls. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved as well as his power. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side through a balanced approach.

07/27/2009 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Lance is an OF with a solid, average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is near above average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He works to get behind and plays through the baseball with feet and hands. Defensive abilities in the OF are slightly above average. Arm strength is average from a low ' arm slot. He needs to work on raising arm slot, staying on top of baseball, and get on a strict long toss program to build more arm strength with carry. At the plate, hitting abilities and power are well below average. Hands are direct but have mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Lance has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
