12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Lane showed solid skills at both positions during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. He showed a spike in defensive skills, offensive numbers, and also showed well on the mound. At SS, Lane has active feet, an athletic fielding position, and he fields out in front of his body. He has smooth footwork, a clean glove, and an accurate arm across the diamond. On the mound, Lane has a good presence, a simple starter step, and he gathers himself well. He has a clean arm circle, a controlled landing toward the plate, and he throws strikes. Lane worked down in the zone, his off-speed showed well, and competes aggressively in the zone. At the plate, Lane has a tall/open stance, a square stride, and he swings on plane. He has quick hands, a rhythmic swing, and he finds the barrel of the bat consistently.

09/22/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Lynnwood (Seattle), WA Lane is an athletic RHP/SS prospect who will graduate in 2024. On the mound, Lane gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Lane shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 59-61mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 65-68mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Lane shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent line drives. Overall, Lane is a talented prospect who shows great potential as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
