05/28/2019 - 2019 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Lawrence continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. In the OF not many balls get down that are hit his way (6.90 60 time). Transfer exchange is smooth as he zips throws (86 mph velocity) on a line through his target. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. At the plate, he continues to shine. He stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression as he connects with power driving (94 mph exit velocity) to all parts of the field.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Lawrence is a talented/athletic MIF who we have the pleasure of watching develop throughout the years. He shined during his time in Arizona and impressed at the plate. This righty has the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field with power (exit velocity = 94 mph). He is aggressive and battled in every AB, not going down easily. At SS, he works fluidly right to left around the GB and funnels into a quick/clean transfer. Throws are on a line with carry across the diamond. Sutton is a 2020 SS prospect who has what it takes to play at a high level.

11/18/2018 - College PREP - Germantown (Memphis), TN Lawrence continues to show the makings of a special type player at the next level. At SS, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with zip (83 mph velocity) and on line carry through his target. At the plate, power potential is tremendous through an open setup. Hands are quick (94 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. The baseball comes off his bat differently when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Lawrence will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game and he is a sure player to follow.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Lawrence continued to show as a prospect at the UAAAPS Tournament. In the field, Lawrence shows active footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Lawrence is a skilled prospect who has upside on the diamond.

11/19/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Germantown (Memphis), TN Lawrence continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. In the OF, feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in covering a lot of ground. At SS, hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic actions on his feeds / turns of the double play. Feet are aggressive in attacking ground balls but will benefit by playing through more with his body. Throws are accurate with on line carry to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with rhythm and balance. Hands are explosive (91 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/20/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Lawrence continues to show the makings of a special type player with his baseball tools. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he shows smooth / athletic actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. In the MIF, he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / clean but needs to present more out front. Throws are accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall, athletic setup. Hands are quick / explosive (89 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop.

04/09/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Lawrence is an athletic built OF/SS prospect who has a well-rounded skill set and good potential. Offensively, Lawrence has a square setup and centered balance. He has a good load and takes a short stride. Lawrence lets the ball travel and has a long swing path. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields and can drive the ball to the opposite field. In the outfield, Lawrence plays with quick footwork and takes the correct angles to cover good ground in each direction laterally. He attacks the baseball and fields it in an athletic position. Lawrence receives the ball with a firm glove and is working to speed up his exchange. He plays with momentum through the baseball and throws with a long, loose arm action from a high 3/4 slot. His throws are online with good carry. At SS, Lawrence plays with active footwork and good body control as he looks especially smooth to his glove side. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a square position. He has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a high 3/4 slot. He plays through the baseball showing strong throws across the diamond. Overall, Lawrence talent on both sides of the ball and good upside to get even better.

03/05/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Chattanooga, TN Lawrence is a tall, lean (6'1”, 165lbs) SS/OF prospect with ability to play both positions at a high level. He shows advanced feel at the dish with a smooth setup and swing with the ability to make hard contact to all fields. He sets up square in the box with a strong load and stride to activate his lower half and generate fast bat speed. He shows a direct, balanced path to the ball to make consistent, hard contact with feel for the barrel and line drives sprayed to all fields. In the outfield, he has active footwork and is adept going back on the ball hit over his head. He fields square to the ball with soft, presented hands and works through to get momentum to the target on his throws. At short, he is agile moving to both sides to field and he gets square to the ball to keep everything in front. He has clean hands and makes good DP feeds and turns. A long toss program will improve arm strength and allow him to stay at short long term. Lawrence is a nice, young prospect who has potential on the field.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Sutton continues to show well on the diamond. As a hitter, this righty has quiet/simple actions waiting for a pitch he likes. Hands work well through a level path as he engages his lower 1/2 to create torque, resulting in some pop off of the barrel. At SS, he actively works around the GB and into a square fielding position. Hands are presented out in front as he gathers and has a clean exchange to throw. Continuing to develop his footwork / agility will aid in his development on the left side of the INF. This 2020 grad has a ton of upside on the diamond.

11/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Germantown (Memphis), TN Lawrence has really improved his defensive abilities in the OF since the last time we saw him and shows a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads ball well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. At SS, he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / clean as he presents well out front. Defensive abilities will improve as he quickens his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact mainly to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more consistently.

08/21/2016 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Lawrence continues to show improvements in his abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. At SS, feet are active as he works around and plays through with his body. Hands are clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Lawrence has potential with time and room to progress his game.

05/22/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Lawrence continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has some pop in his bat with power showing best to the pull side. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to get around balls and works to square up. Hands are clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. In the OF, feet are active / aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Working to get behind balls more to play through will aid in improving defensive abilities.

11/08/2015 - College PREP - Germantown (Memphis), TN Sutton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Defensive in both the SS/OF have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. At SS, he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He plays through a low approach with defensive grade continuing to improve as he presents hands more out front. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and utilizes 2 hands well through the fielding process. Defensive grade will continue to improve as works to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target and increases foot quickness. At the plate, hitting grade has improved as well through an open / athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields as he shows a feel for the barrel with gap to gap potential pop. Lawrence will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to develop.

08/16/2015 - National Tryout - Lebanon (Nashville), TN This athletic 2-way player continues to work hard. With the bat, he steps into the box with a purpose and waits for his pitch. He whips the barrel quickly and connects with strength, utilizing the entire field. At SS, Sutton actively works around the GB and into a square fielding position. Transfer is quick as he gets rid of the ball to 1B. In the OF, he tracks down almost everything hit his way. He gathers smoothly and works in-line toward his target. Lawrence is a versatile player who has a projectable build and a ton of upside.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Lawrence is a gamer who brings it on the field. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced setup with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick as he connects with authority and drives the ball with hard contact, mainly to his pull-side. Shortening his stride will allow him to engage his full lower 1/2 and will help to unlock his power potential. At 3B, Lawrence hustles into a square fielding position with a wide base. He tracks the ball into his mitt, gathers well and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Working lower (from the ground-up) will help him to stay down on GB's that give the 'in-between' hop. Sutton has tools with still a lot of time to progress.

05/31/2015 - National Tryout - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Sutton continues to work hard on his skills. Offensively, this RHH shows a balanced approach with fluid rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel on a level path as he connects with pop. Defensively in the INF, he hustles and works hard around the GB. He funnels smoothly to a clean exchange. On the bump, Lawrence maintains good tempo working at his pace. He repeats his delivery and throws strikes. More lead arm extension will help him to stay directional toward the dish and will help to improve command. Only a 2020 grad - Lawrence still has a ton of time to develop his game.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Lawrence continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At 3B, defensive grade continues to improve as he displays clean / smooth actions. He attacks balls and works around as he plays through, presenting hands out front. Lateral movement is a plus as he displays range. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows a balanced setup and gets to a strong launch position. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and he makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and gets stride foot down sooner to work on time. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/13/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Lawrence continues to work hard, this time showing as a 3B at the event with steady play in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he shows best through a balanced setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact, showing a feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays proper pre-pitch footwork with good lateral movements to the ground ball. He works to square balls up, displaying clean hands with defensive grade improving as he attacks balls more, plays through, and increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, works hard to be the best player he can be, and is a great teammate.

10/26/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Lawrence continues to work hard on his game. Offensively, this RHH shows an aggressive approach and is looking to swing from the moment he steps into the box. He swings on a level path, utilizes his lower 1/2 well and drives the middle of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path will result in harder hit balls. At 3B, he comes to get the ground ball and works into a low fielding position. He works from the ground-up and has a clean exchange to throw. In the OF, he works to catch the fly-ball at it's highest point and has a clean exchange to throw. He gains ground toward his target and makes accurate throws. Working on his routes/angles and his first step will help him to develop in the OF. Only a 2020 grad - Lawrence has a ton of time to develop his skills.

07/31/2014 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown Lawrence is a big long 1B/OF. At 1B he is a good target, with the ability to pick it showing well with the glove. He also moves well at 1B, with quick lateral movements and ranges well for a corner guy. At the plate Lawrence shows good pop with a full body swing, using the lower half well. He shows the ability to be a middle of the order guy, with future potential to hit with power to all fields.

05/25/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Lawrence is a 2-way player as a 1B/OF. With the bat, this RHH shows an athletic setup with good balance. He squares the ball up, drives it, and gets extension through the zone. At 1B, Lawrence is aggressive and comes to get the ball. He fields the ball cleanly and can pick throws out of the dirt. In the OF, he works hard into a position behind the fly-ball. He makes the play and has a clean exchange. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
