12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Lawson is a strong, athletic player who has continued to improve his game. At the dish, his peak exit velo is up to 81mph and his raw velocity is up 7mph to 83mph. He has loose actions at short with extended range and smooth hands. He plays through the ball and makes accurate throws to his target. At the dish, he shows a compact swing with a short path to the ball, showing no holes in his swing. He has a strong lower half to produce pop and he sprays hits to all fields. On the bump, he shows command of his fastball and uses it to work ahead of hitters. Hehas feel for pitching and can mix his pitches to keep hitters off balance. Staying on top of the ball will allow him to work down in the zone and get better action on his pitches. We look forward to watching Lawson during his senior season.

08/18/2018 - College PREP - West Harrison (NYC), NY Lawson is an athletic RHP/SS prospect who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Lawson repeats well as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm action and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Lawson shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph. Knuckle ball sits at 63mph. Cutter ranges from 70-71mph. Lawson can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. In the field, Lawson shows active footwork and is very agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Lawson can improve defensively by getting rid of the ball quicker. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Lawson can improve as a hitter by getting into his load sooner. Overall, Lawson is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
