01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Layden is a talented and athletic 2021 C prospect. Behind the dish, he presents a big target and works behind the ball. He has good lateral movement when he blocks and controls the ball with his chest. He has a clean exchange and creates momentum to throw with his lower half. At the plate, Layden makes hard contact and gets his backside through the ball. He stays in his legs and keeps a quiet head. Continuing to keep a middle approach and attacking the inside part of the ball will allow him to drive the ball to all fields. Layden will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/18/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Highland Park (DFW), TX Layden is a 2B/C who will graduate in 2021. Defensively at 2B, he takes active angles and works into a low/athletic fielding position. He comes up with a quick exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. Behind the plate, he displays an athletic setup and presents a low target. He gets rid of the ball clean and makes strong throws down to 2B. With the stick, Layden stays balanced with fluid rhythm. He swings fast through the zone and consistently drives the ball from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Lateral quickness
2. Quicker exchange to throw
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Catching
1. Develop soft glove
2. Sit low
3. Quicker to block and recover
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Level out swing path
3. Extend through contact

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
