04/08/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Plano (DFW), TX Layne is an athletic, 2-way player who plays SS and catcher. In the INF, Layne has playable hands and feet, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He moves well around the bag, has a clean exchange, and throws with consistency to his target. Behind the plate, Layne has firm hands, he frames the ball well, and he keeps it in front when blocking. He has a arm slot with consistency to his target. At the plate, Layne has an athletic set-up, he gets in a good starting position, and has a solid good bat angle. Layne will need to work on the following in order to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
