06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS)
Layne is a SS/RHP who will graduate in 2022. Medium frame athletic build with projectable frame with room to fill throughout moving forward. At SS, he showed good rhythm to his actions and ability to cover ground. Creates good fielding angles and ability to play through the ball. Shows good glove action and fields the ball out front. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with accurate/on-line throws across the diamond and an arm velocity of 83mph. Right-handed pitcher who gathers over and works in-line to target. Picks up target early, with good extension out front, and works with good tempo. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with good command of the strike zone. FB topped out at 76mph with good command in/out. Mixed in a 10/4 shaped breaking ball with good depth and a changeup that he throws with FB arm speed and some arm side run. In 4 innings of work in live game action, he only surrendered 4 hits and no earned runs. Right-handed hitter begins with an upright stance and square stance. Athletic setup, with good balance, as he showed good feel for barrel. Gets knob to C and ability to hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 76mph. Layne showed to be a tough out in live game action reaching base multiple times. With continued growth and development, we can see him having opportunities to play at the next level.
01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX)
Layne is a tall RHP/SS prospect who showcased his skills during the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. On the mound, Layne gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a short arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Layne shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 66-69mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 71-73mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Layne shows active footwork and attacks the ball aggressively. He makes the routine plays and has a quick exchange, making on-line throws across the diamond. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance with center balance. He drives through well with his lower half and stays direct through the ball, producing consistent line drives. Overall, Layne is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Layne is an athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.27 60 time. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth/athletic actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry (84 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Layne has potential with time and room to improve his game.
