07/07/2019 - Baseball Factory Cleveland All Star Experience (Ages 12-14) Lavten is a young C/2B that plays bigger than his stature. Behind the plate Lavten shows an athletic setup and presents his hands well. His secondary is athletic and low creating momentum to his target with accurate throws. His blocking footwork is on time and he centers the ball keeping his chin tucked. Lavten shows comfortable hands at the plate with a short and square stride. He separates his hips and hands well working to get the barrel on plane and showing line drive power. Working on his arm strength can help Lavtens game. Lavten already shows great actions on the ball field and will continue to develop as he grows into his body.

05/12/2019 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Layten is a young, 2-way player who catches and plays 2nd base. Behind the plate, Layten sits in athletically, he has a presentable glove, and holds a good target. He looks the ball in, blocks well, and throws with a short arm action to 2nd base with pop times as low as 3.5 seconds. At 2nd base, Layten has efficient footwork, good range to the glove side, and he throws with consistency to his target. At the plate, Layten has a square/athletic set-up, he loads well, and flashes fast bat speed. He swings on plane, makes square contact, and he hits hard to the pull side. Overall skills can continue to get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
