Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/11/2016 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Lewis is a lean, athletic built 3B/RHP prospect who has talent on both sides of the ball. At the hot corner, Lewis plays with effective footwork and good body control fielding the ball athletically. He presents his glove and has soft hands leading to a clean exchange. He plays with momentum through the baseball and has long, loose arm action. Lewis throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and his throws are online with good arm strength. Offensively, Lewis has a square, athletic setup with a firm front side. He has good load with short, square stride and uses his lower half throughout his swing. Lewis has a direct swing path and gets solid rotation with his core. He sprays the ball to all fields with square contact. On the mound, Lewis has balanced, repeatable delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot with loose arm action. He stays square and has a controlled landing as he rotates towards home plate. His fastball has cut movement and his curveball has good depth. Lewis also features a deceptive change-up with cut movement. Overall, Lewis has the potential to become an impactful player on both sides of the ball at the next level.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Baron displayed some of his best tools to date at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively at SS, he worked through the baseball with good body control and sure hands. He worked out in front with plus athleticism and began implementing more efficient angles to improve his glove to glove pops. Offensively, he had good balance throughout his swing, activated his hands to launch and rotated his core to help accelerate his barrel through the zone. He generated good bat speed to hit and with more fluidity and rhythm to get through the zone will boost barrel accuracy. On the mound, he threw his FB from 66-68, spun a 10/4 CB from 56-57, and threw a CH from 60-61 with some feel. He pounded the zone with his FB and had a repeatable tempo. His lower half worked well through the delivery and his arm action was loose/free in the backside. Working on his front side staying directional to the dish, and working on his front side extension will add more feel for all of his stuff. All in all - Baron is a young player that is entering his freshman year this fall with some present strengths.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Lewis is a coachable player who has a willingness to learn and improve his game. At the plate, this RHH shows a closed setup with patience as he drew 3 walks at the event. He gets good hand separation with leverage. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and will pull it with pop. Engaging and driving his lower 1/2 more will help to increase power at the plate. At SS, Baron hustles into an athletic fielding position. He tracks the ball into his mitt, gathers well and works in-line toward 1B. Quickening his transfer/exchange will allow him to get rid of it across the diamond. Getting on a long toss program will aid in increasing arm strength which will improve his play on the left side of the diamond. On the mound, Lewis competes when he toes the rubber. FB shows slight sink as he works to keep it down in the zone. Tempo/rhythm is smooth as he works at his pace and fires from a deceptive 3/4 arm slot. He works his FB to both sides of the plate and commands it well. Only a 2019 grad - Baron has a solid skill set with a ton of time to develop.

12/13/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Westlake Village, CA Lewis is a young, 2-way player as a SS/RHP who has an athletic build. Defensively at SS, he shows active footwork and hustles around the ground ball. He fields the ball cleanly and gathers well. Ball is quick from glove to hand as he fires accurate throws to 1B. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with quiet actions. He utilizes his lower 1/2 well and generates some pop off of his barrel. On the mound, this RHP throws a FB & CB from an over the top arm slot with a loose/free arm action. He works to a tall balance point and drives downhill toward the dish. FB ranges from 60-62 mph while showing late run. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with gradual break. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. More aggressiveness
2. Play through ball
Offense
1. Shorter/more direct swing
2. Contact points
Pitching
1. Arm strength
2. Keep eyes on target
3. Finish with extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
