12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Liam continues to work hard on his game. On the mound, this LHP works quickly and keeps hitters off balance. Arm works free/clean as he maintains level shoulders. FB shows cut as hitters have a tough time squaring it up. He works the outer ½ and challenges hitters to take the ball the other way. Continuing to work on strengthening his arm will raise velocity and improve effectiveness on the bump. At 1B, he shows good lateral range and hustles into a square fielding position. He tracks the ball into his mitt and fields the ball cleanly. He is a good target at 1B and can pick throws out of the dirt. Offensively, Whitty has rhythm to load as he waits back for his pitch. He connects and creates extension through his finish. Leveling out his swing and driving his lower ½ will help to improve his skill-set with the bat. This 2017 grad has skills with the versatility to make things happen in many aspects of the game.

07/17/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Liam is a talented L/L player that showed some of his best ability to date at the Cape Cod Select Training & Competition. His athleticism continues to be on the rise, as he ran a 7.8 sixty - his best time to date. Offensively, he kept his head down at contact and kept his barrel in the zone on a level path. He generated good bat speed and got his hands activated to launch. When he swings it, and doesn't feel for the barrel, he shows solid pop and plus hit ability. Defensively, he moved well with athleticism and has feel around the bag. He is sure with his hands and with added arm strength will be tremendous asset. On the hill, he threw three pitches for strikes, with a simple repeatable delivery. He attacked the zone and showed good poise and presence. Overall - Liam is a quiet, hard working player that has another 3 years to refine his ability for next level play.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Liam showed a smooth delivery, good tempo, and a free arm action on the mound during Pirate City. He competes in the zone, mixes off-speed in well, and his FB shows A/S run. At 1st base, Liam showed the ability to make routine plays, he moves well to the glove side, and throws with a good arm action to his target. Offensively, Liam has an open stance, decent balance, and he finds the barrel of the bat.

10/27/2013 - College PREP - Fort Myers, FL Liam is a lean, athletic LHP/1B that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Feet are active as he moves well side to side, flashing range and works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. Foot work around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and present hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Whitty shows a closed / upright setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he creates more extension through the ball and uses his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-73 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays sweeping action as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch more. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with cutting action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained and he works to throw more strikes. With 4 years to further develop, Liam has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
