09/01/2019 - National Tryout Plus - San Francisco, CA Lucas is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect. At the hot corner, Lucas is aggressive to the ball and plays through the ball. He has good footwork on double plays and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Lucas starts in a tall stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and has fast hands to the ball. He creates some rotation with his hip and gets extension through the ball. He’s a line drive hitter that looks to make contact to all fields. On the bump, Lucas gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and has a loose arm action. He rotates toward his target and rides his back leg toward the plate. He has some movement on his fastball, creates some tilt on his breaking ball, and shows good feel for the change up. Lucas will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/26/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Lucas is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect that was eager to learn all week. At the hot corner, Lucas makes the routine play and knows how to properly position himself on most hitters. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, present an early/low glove, and play through the ball. Improving hip mobility will improve his first step quickness and over all range to the ball. At the plate, Lucas starts in a tall stance, he has a simple load with his hands, and makes consistent contact to all fields. He could get more length in his stride to get to balance. This would help get his backside working to the ball and allow the barrel to whip to the in the inside part of the ball. On the bump, Lucas gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works downhill in his delivery with some rhythm. His fastball is straight and he gets around his breaking ball. Improving his changeup before his curveball will help his fastball to be more deceptive. On the base path Lucas ran hard and was always looking to move up 90 feet. He was a tremendous worker and we hope to see him continue his progress into the future.

03/17/2019 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Lucas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he has improved his power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on the slow roller play. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Fastball showed a range of 70-74 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break and shows as an outstanding pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is outstanding as the throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
