Official Scouting Report

  • 3BPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Carman showed a solid setup with balance at the plate. He loads well as he gets his body into a strong launch position. His hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the ball. He works to keep his hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap to gap power as he shows strength in his swing. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with a 2B.

06/18/2010 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (FL) - 2010 Carman continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date as he is now a 7.47 runner. Offensively is where Lucas shows best as he flashes quick hands with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered through a balanced approach. Swing path is level but gets long creating a pull type swing. He needs to work on getting stride foot down sooner to all hands to work more efficiently through his swing. At the event, he was 3 for 11 with 2 RBI.Defensively, feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in his defensive play with his hands and feet. He did show on the mound, with fastball showing a range of 80-83 mph and off speed pitches showing potential of being quality pitches as he closed out a game, picking up a save.

01/24/2010 - College PREP - Delray Beach, FL Lucas is a young two-way player at 3B plus in the OF with a strong, athletic looking body that is well suited for his positions. Defensively, he projects better at 3B where he shows a low approach with hands and feet working well together through the fielding / throwing process. He will benefit by presenting his hands and glove more down too out in front of his body. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to improve foot speed to increase range. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy into his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Offensively, Carman sits in well allowing his hands to work inside, utilizing all fields as he keeps hands through the baseball at contact. He shows a solid feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Lucas has potential abilities and will catch the eyes of collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
