Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Lucas is a versatile RHP/3B prospect who has a well-rounded game. On the mound, Lucas has a feel for pitching and commands the strike zone. He has a small, simple starter step leading into balanced mechanics. He has a relaxed leg lift and fluid, on-time separation. Lucas has a loose, clean arm action and he gets full extension. He has a controlled landing staying in line to home plate with the proper stride length. Lucas has a full finish and rotates as he finishes with his chest over his front knee. He commands 3 pitches all showing good movement. Offensively, Lucas has a square setup with loose, comfortable hands. He has a small, simple load and a square stride. He has good coordination with his hips and hands as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Lucas has the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with power. In the field, Lucas plays with effective footwork and the proper angles. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a good position. Lucas has a loose arm action and the ability to adjust his arm angle depending on the play. Overall, Lucas is a talented prospect who has a bright future on the diamond.

06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Lucas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he is a prospect on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting with tremendous power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength and sprays the ball to all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 9 with a 2B. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works around balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. Slider is hard with 11/5 shape and short break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

12/03/2017 - College PREP - Lewiston, ME Lucas is a solid 2-way player with good skills at both positions. On the mound, Lucas stands over the rubber well, he has a free/clean arm action, and gets good extension on his pitches. He has good mechanics, solid off-speed, and he competes in the zone well. Continuing to add arm strength will only help mound effectiveness get better. At 3B, Lucas has active feet, agile movements, and he fields in a low/athletic position. He has good feel for his backhand, a quick release, and accuracy with strength across the diamond. Offensively, Lucas has a square set-up, a simple/quiet approach, and he swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed, makes solid/strong contact, and he flashes good pop in his bat.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
