10/06/2019 - College PREP - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Lucas continues to show improvement in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. He did show at SS for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.12 runner. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach. At SS, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is soft / clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Lucas is a lean built SS/RHP prospect who plays the game hard with an aggressive approach. In the field, Lucas plays with effective footwork and covers good ground. He presents his glove and makes the routine plays. Lucas has a decent backhand showing the right approach. He has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action throwing from a low 3/4 arm slot. Lucas shows accurate throws with good strength across the diamond. Offensively, Lucas has a tall setup with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a square stride. Lucas does a nice job tracking the baseball with his eyes and works the count. He has a long swing path and can develop bat speed. Lucas has the ability to hit the ball to the opposite field. On the mound, Lucas has a composed motion with on-time separation. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Lucas has a clean arm action and can benefit from extending through his release. He has the proper stride length and a controlled landing open to home plate. Lucas has run movement on his fastball and throws his changeup with good arm speed. Overall, Lucas is a versatile prospect who has a balanced game on both sides of the ball.

12/27/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Pittsburgh, PA Lucas is a versatile RHP/SS prospect who graduates in 2021. On the mound, Lucas has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on his target and repeats his motion. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Lucas stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. He features a full arsenal with a curveball and changeup. In the field, Lucas plays with fluid footwork and works around the baseball. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low, athletic position. Lucas has a quick, clean exchange leading into a short arm action. He plays with momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, Lucas has a square stance with a centered balance. He has an aggressive approach and repeats his mechanics. Lucas has a short stride and maintains a still head. He has an on-plane swing path. Lucas has a middle of the field approach and can spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Lucas is a well-rounded prospect who the ability to get even better.

10/29/2017 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Lucas is a young, 2-way player who pitches and plays SS. On the mound, Lucas stands over the rubber well balanced, he works on a downhill plane, and repeats his delivery well. He has good tilt on his CB, finishes in a complete position, and gets good extension on his pitches. Mound effectiveness can get better if Lucas can add arm strength, work quicker, and sharpen off-speed. At SS, Lucas has efficient footwork, he fields in a low/athletic position, and plays through properly. He makes the routine plays, has a clean exchange, and an accurate arm to his target. Defense can improve with a quicker release, looser arm action, and work on the double play. Offensively, Lucas has a square/athletic set-up, short stride, and proper load. He is an aggressive hitter with average bat speed, and he makes consistent contact. Improved balanced, rhythm, and a shorter swing path can help spike hitting numbers.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
