Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

05/19/2019 - College PREP - Sumrall (Hattiesburg), MS Lucas is a LHP/1B prospect who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, Lucas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and extends through on his release. He works with a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78 mph. Fastball shows good sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 62-64 mph with 2/8 break. Changeup sits from 72-73 mph with sinking action but throws too hard, resembling fastball. He shows a slider that sits 63-65 mph but resembles breaking ball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to build more arm strength will aid in building stock on the mound. In the field, Lucas shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He fields the ball out in front with soft hands and makes a quick exchange to throw. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them accurate to his target. He can improve defensively by fielding the ball on the balls of his feet and presenting glove more out front. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets back into his load well and drives through with his lower half. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and works to barrel up the baseball and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. With two more years to develop, Lucas has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
