Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

11/17/2013 - College PREP - Germantown (Memphis), TN Lucas continues to progress in his game. Offensively, he improved his power at the plate. He shows good rhythm getting back into a loaded position and delivering the barrel with speed. He drives it to the gaps with pop. In the OF, he hustles into position behind the fly-ball, catches it at its highest point, and delivers throws with carry into his target. On the mound, FB now tops out at 76 mph from a long arm action. He gets good lead arm extension, helping to drive and work in-line toward the dish. Lucas works hard to make improvements and should have success on the diamond this upcoming season.

10/16/2013 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Lucas showed good range in the OF during his time in Arizona. He gets in a good ready position, he fields on-time, and he takes good angles. Lucas makes plays, and throws with carry from a solid arm action. Working on getting better reads off the bat will help him improve defensively, but he shows present athleticism footspeed and body control. Offensively, Lucas made good adjustments, he stands in athletically, and he keeps his hands back. Working on developing a better two strike approach and pitch recognition will help him continue to improve. Lucas is a good teammate and will continue to improve as he gets older. He will make a good addition to a college team in a couple of years.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Lucas is a young OF/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level and he showed us multiple improvements since we saw him a few months ago. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.97 60 time. He utilizes his outstanding foot speed in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. He moves well laterally, displaying range and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a simple and balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and see the ball deeper. On the mound, his breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with slight break as he needs to stay on top more. He will benefit by developing a changeup. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and plays hard. With 2 years to further develop, Lucas has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
