04/29/2018 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Luis continues to improve his baseball abilities on the diamond and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.04 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his loose, quick arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball showed range of 70-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Luis is a hardworking C/RHP who continues to better his game on the diamond. Behind the plate, he sits in a low setup and receives with soft hands. He shows athletic actions on balls in the dirt as he moves well and centers them back towards the plate. He has a quick, effortless exchange as shown in his 2.07 pop time to 2nd base. On the mound he showed simple mechanics throwing from an over the top arm slot showing a fastball and curveball. He showed great feel for his breaking ball as it has tight, late spin and was a solid out pitch for him. With the bat, Luis shows good rhythm and load getting into a good hitting position. He has a level swing path which allows him to stay in the zone longer and drive the baseball. Staying on balls will help him hit to all fields better. Luis is a solid prospect to follow over the next two seasons.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Luis is a talented C/RHP prospect who has a well-rounded skill set. Behind the plate, Luis plays with good body control and balance. He has an athletic setup and presents a low target. Luis receives the ball with soft hands. He has a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Luis has good accuracy and strength on his throws with POP times ranging 2.09-2.25 seconds. As a right-handed hitter, Luis looks comfortable with an athletic setup. He has smooth rhythm and takes a square stride as his lower half leads his swing. Luis has an on-plane swing path and the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. Overall, Luis has good upside with a solid foundation of skills and the talent to get even better.

07/11/2016 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Luis is a very hard working player who continues to progress. He has natural abilities that make the game come easy to him. With the bat, this righty has fluid rhythm to load and waits for his pitch. He has a relaxed grip with loose actions and whips the barrel through the zone quickly. He squares the ball up and hits line-drives. Behind the plate - Luis presents a soft/low target and tracks pitches into his mitt. He has a smooth transfer with accurate throws on the 2B bag. Luis is a gamer who takes charge on the field. On the mound, this righty maintains fluid tempo and repeats his mechanically sound delivery. FB tops out at 71 mph as he keeps it down in the zone. Slier has tight spin with slight tilt. Luis has upside with still a ton of time to develop.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Luis is a R/R catcher who will graduate in 2019. Behind the plate, he sits in and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. Feet are active as he works in line toward 2B and has a clean transfer / exchange. Throws are accurate with pop times in the 2.70 range. Times will continue to drop as he adds arm strength and quickens his transfer/release. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He tracks the ball well and makes consistent contact hitting line-drives back up the middle of the field. A 2019 graduate, Luis has abilities with still time and room to continue to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
