12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Luke works hard on his skills and showed well during his time at Pirate City. At SS, he has active footwork and moves well around the GB from right to left. He gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Strengthening his arm (long toss) will help him to grow on the left side of the INF. With the bat, Luke steps into the box with a purpose, looking to swing it. He takes an aggressive hack and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Getting loaded sooner and smoothening out his stride will help to increase contact consistency along with allowing him to utilize more of his lower 1/2 throughout the swing. On the bump, this RHP works quickly and doesn't give hitters a chance to get settled. He is consistently around the zone throwing strikes with both pitches. FB still sits in the low 70's as he pitches to contact - giving his defense a chance. He pounds the zone and works ahead in the count. More extension (towel drill) on his finish/follow through will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. Luke has skills with still time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

09/27/2015 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Luke is an athletic 2-way player (RHP/SS) who has an athletic build. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot and loose/smooth arm action. He stays directional toward the dish and repeats his delivery well. FB tops out at 73 mph while showing slight arm-side run. Curveball has 10/4 shape with 'slider' like action. Changeup has arm-side run as he throws it with FB arm speed helping to create deception. Added velocity will come with more lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber. Defensively, he shows quick/active prep and moves well on the balls of his feet. He presents his glove and fields the ball out in front fielding the ball with soft hands. Exchange is clean with accurate throws to 1B. With the bat, Luke has an athletic/setup with active hands. Barrel delivery is level to and through the zone as he works to engage his lower 1/2. Increased power will come with added strength. A 2017 grad - Luke has tools with still time to develop and mature physically.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
