12/27/2011 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic - 2011 This week in Arizona, Curry displayed the ability to center the ball well and has good footwork around the bag at first. His defensive abilities should continue to improve as he learns to continue working through the groundball. At the plate, he has good pre-pitch rhythm and extends well through contact. His tools at the plate should continue to improve as he learns to hit against a firm front side. Curry has a very coachable attitude and shows he has the ability to make adjustments when necessary.

08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 Luke showed many improvements in his time at Vero Beach. He improved his arm as well as his hitting and power grades. At 1B, Luke does well keeping the ball in front and knocking it down. He tends to get his glove down late and needs to present it earlier, out in front of his body. Offensively, Curry has a good set-up, generates good bat speed, and is a gap to gap type hitter. He shows quick hands and solid barrel accuracy through a consistent swing. At times he spins off and steps closed. He needs to get a better load which will then give him more power throughout the swing. Luke will continue to improve through hard work.

06/19/2011 - College PREP - Wichita, KS Luke is a solid and strong two way player that will graduate in 2012. Offensively he shows a tall stance with a short stride and good balance throughout the swing. He has average bat speed with an on plane swing and makes good use of his lower half. He needs to continue to work on a better pre-pitch load, get his front foot down earlier to help with pitch selection and have a better hand separation. He made inconsistent contact on most pitches away from him. Defensively he shows good aggressiveness to the ball with decent range to both sides and he makes consistent throws to his target. He needs to continue to work on having a lower base to help get his hands out front a bit and to soften them up. He also needs to continue to develop arm strength with a solid long toss program. Luke is a hard working kid with good speed and size that needs to continue to work on improving his abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
