He made accurate throws to first base from a 3/4 arm, with good carry, and an arm velocity up to 79mph. At the plate, he sets up in an athletic and open stance with high hands. Fluid rhythm to swing, with activated hands, and keeps his weight between his knees. A strong barrel at contact enables him to hit balls hard to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 85mph. During the games, Luke reached base 5 times with a double and 4 base on balls. Overall, Luke is a good player who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

A right-handed pitcher, he has a confident demeanor and showed athletic actions. Starts square on the rubber and gets a good rear hip coil and works with good direction down mound. Attacks hitters with a FB that sat 70-77mph, and an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with good command. At the plate, has natural juice in swing and showed about ability to work counts. He hit balls hard to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 77mph during BP. In live game action, he reached base 5 times with a double, 2 singles, a base on balls, and reached on an error. At the plate, he hits from a tall and open stance with loose hand actions. Does a good job creating a repeatable and simple load. His lower 1/2 works through the baseball as does his barrel. Delivered all pitches from a high 3/4 arm action. Showed clean mechanics with a good arm action. Breaking ball was landed for strikes often in a 11-5 shape while his fastball worked up to 71MPH with some slight run. Luke is a bright prospect that shows lots of energy on the field.

Luke can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Luke gathers over the rubber and works with a loose arm. He extends through his release and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Luke's fastball tops out at 59mph. Driving his lower half more can help Luke improve as a pitcher. With six more years to develop, Luke has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
