Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/3BPosition Projection

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Luke is a talented C/3B prospect who has a well-rounded game and graduates in 2020. As a right-handed hitter, Luke has an athletic, open stance with his weight in the front of his setup. He has a load with a long stride as his lower half leads his swing. Luke shows fast bat speed with an in and out swing path. He looks to put the ball in play and can drive it to the pull side. Behind the plate, Luke has an effective setup with a strong base. He presents a low target and stays square to the pitcher with broad shoulders. He does a nice job framing the baseball. He plays with good rhythm and is building arm strength with quick release. Overall, Luke is an athletic, projectable prospect who has an effective approach and talent to take his skill to the next level.

06/11/2017 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Luke is a strong, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.45-2.68 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking and is a wall behind the plate. With 3 years to further develop, Luke has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
