Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

10/22/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Potomac, MD Luke continues to progress both on the mound and in the OF. On the mound, this lefty has a quick/loose arm action, he keeps his eyes on target, and has good direction towards the plate. His CB shows good 1/7 shape and he competes in the zone. CH has some arm-side run and compliments his FB well. Working to finish with more extension out over his front side will allow him to finish pitches and improve overall effectiveness on the mound. In the OF, Luke reads the ball off the bat well, moves well with active footwork and gets into an athletic fielding position. He plays through ground balls well and gains momentum to throw with consistency to his cut-off man. Offensively, Luke swings an aggressive stick, he is well balanced, and uses his lower body. He has quick hands, and makes square/consistent contact. He is a line-drive type of hitter who looks to drive the middle of the field. Only a 2021 grad, Luke has a solid all-around skill-set with still a ton of time to develop.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Luke competed very well at the Baseball Factory Winter Classic as both a LHP and 1B. On the hill, he threw a lot of strikes, working his FB up to 61, and spinning a 2/8 CB from 56-59. He worked quickly with his tempo and had good rhythm in his delivery. His front side stayed strong on the target and he controlled his landing to finish. Adding arm strength through a throwing program, and getting more extension with a towel drill are the next steps to development. Defensively at 1B, he worked with smooth hands to make plays and had the proper footwork to throw. He controlled his feet around the bag and worked on his patience to pick the ball. At the plate, he flashed some rhythm to hit with feel for the barrel. He showed signs of lower half use and got good extension out over the front side. Throughout the course of the event he made great adjustments to his hitting approach and is getting himself prepped for his spring season. All in all - Luke should never change his intangibles and his ability to control the controllables as he strengthens his already sound skills.

09/27/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Luke is a skilled 2-way player as a LHP/1B. On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point and has smooth separation. He keeps his eyes on the target and works in-line toward the dish. FB ranges from 57-59 mph as he works in and out. Curveball has 2/8 shape with good tilt. He finishes complete in an athletic fielding position. At 1B, Luke has active/efficient footwork as he moves well laterally. He moves well around the 1B bag, is sure handed and can pick it. With the bat, this righty shows a square setup with fluid rhythm. He has a quiet/athletic setup with good balance. Swing is level to and through the zone as he barrels the ball up and hits line-drives. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Develop CH
3. Drive lower 1/2 off of rubber
Defense
1. Glove presentation
2. Lateral quickness
Offense
1. Load
2. Rhythm/Timing
3. More extension through contact

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
