Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

06/21/2021 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Luke is a 1B/RHP who was recently part of the 2021 graduating class. He shows off a tall and physical frame. A1st base, he shows a good target for fielders to throw across the diamond to. Does a good job keeping his feet athletic and moving through the baseball. Shows a good ability to save errors with his picking ability on balls in the dirt. At the plate, he shows a good athletic stance and setup. Does a good job competing and battling deep into counts. Shows outstanding use of his lower ½ and has present power with more to come. In live game action, he hit a deep homerun and had exit velos up to 88 MPH. Luke is a well-rounded prospect that we hope gets the chance to play at the next level.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Luke continues to show as a top prospect at the All-America Pre-Season Tournament. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet / hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, power potential is tremendous through a tall setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity), generating bat speed through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with gap to gap pop.

09/16/2020 - Pathway AZ Upperclass - 18U Luke continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are excellent as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he displays proper foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with zip (86 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows a tall, squared setup. Hands are quick (89 exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed range of 80-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/13/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Daytona Beach, FL Luke is a tall/strong (6'4"/215) 1B who can make things happen. Defensively, he has active prep and creates good angles in his approach to the GB. He tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. He is a big target and 1B who has athleticism and can move around the bag well and pick it. With the bat, Luke stands in well with centered balance, a solid base and fluid rhythm to load. He whips the barrel quickly to and through the zone with + speed, connects with pop and send the ball screaming (exit velocity = 87 mph). Shannahan is a talented 1B prospect who has the tools that will translate well into the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
