06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Maddux showed on the mound and at 1B for the first time at the event where he projects best. . At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a big receiver, displaying clean hands. He works to square ground balls up through an aggressive approach. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine as he improved power potential, now showing outstanding abilities. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-73 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.
