Official Scouting Report

06/07/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Magnus is an athletic LHP pitcher who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Magnus gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm action and accelerates through his release, staying inline towards the plate. His fastball shows good cutting action. Breaking ball shows sharp 1-7 break. Changeup has good sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated and takes a level swing, leading to solid contact. Overall, Magnus is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Magnus continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

10/12/2018 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Magnus is an athletic OF/LHP prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Magnus shows an athletic ready position and displays efficient footwork to field. He gets into an athletic position and fields with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and stays directional to throw, working to keep his throws accurate to his target. Magnus can improve defensively by working to stay on top of the baseball when throwing. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat sped which leads to solid line drives. Adding strength can help Magnus improve as a hitter. On the mound, Magnus works from the stretch only and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and works with a loose, quick arm, staying inline towards the plate. Magnus shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with cutting action. Breaking ball shows sharp 1-7 break. Changeup displays good sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Magnus can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Overall, Magnus is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
