06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Magruder continues to show a bright future on the diamond. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remains in the low 2.10 range. At the plate, Magruder has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone as he connects with strength. A switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides the ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

02/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Mobile, AL Magruder continues to show plus tools across the board with promising future on the diamond. He only showed behind the plate at the event but has the tools to play at the next level. Pop times were in the 2.10 range as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Hands are soft / sure as he tracks the ball well through a quiet / athletic setup. He shows his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he gets down quickly and work to center balls with his body. At the plate, he continues to show as switch hitter with well above average abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velo) and work through a direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stay inside the ball, displaying gap to gap pop.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament O'Bannon is a switch hitting 2017 first baseman. He fields the baseball on time, works through nicely, gains momentum toward his target and throws accurately on a line. He has active footwork around the bag and has good lateral range to his forehand side. Offensively, strides softly after a smooth load from both sides of the plate and is direct and has good line drive abilities. Slightly better hitting from the left side as he sees the ball a bit deeper. He barrels the ball up with pop and drives it on a line. Magruder is a solid prospect whose tools will translate well into the next level.

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Magruder continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has improved his hitting abilitie from the left side, now showing well above average hitting and power potential from both sides through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He uses his lower half well and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and displaying gap to gap pop. Behind the dish, pop times where in the low 2.10 range. He gets rid of the baseball quickly through a quick / clean release and displays solid arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is a leader behind plate.

12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic O'Bannon continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.10. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level as he continue to develop and get more reps. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter projecting slightly better from the right side through squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a tough kid, very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be, displaying a promising future on the diamond.

07/12/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Magruder is a young catcher that will graduate in 2017 with a lot of potential both behind and at the plate. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range 2.28-2.41 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to increase foot quickness and builds more arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he is a switch hitter with abilities from both sides but projects better from the right side as he shows a squared with balance setup. Hands are quick and work through compact / level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact, showing a feel for the barrel, displaying gap to gap pop from both sides. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, good instincts with plays with a lot of energy. With 3 years to further develop, Magruder has an upside and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
