01/31/2016 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Makaine is a thick, broad RHP who will graduate in 2016 with a sound mound presence. On the bump, this righty throws a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works through a strong balance point and has smooth overall actions. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 82 mph. FB ranges from 78-80 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains his arm speed and shows a feel for his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Makaine has abilities with a lot of room to continue to progress.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
