12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Malik continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.09. At the plate, hitting potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as well as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are soft / sure but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength to through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

08/20/2017 - College PREP - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Malik is a lean, athletic SS/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.27 60 time. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At SS, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 2 years to further develop, Malik has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
