01/29/2017 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Malik is a hardworking outfield prospect who has a well-rounded skill set on both sides of the ball. As a left-handed hitter, Malik has a balanced stance with fluid rhythm. He has a good load with a short, square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Malik stays compact with an on-plane swing path getting good extension at contact. He is a contact hitter who shows consistent contact. In the field, Malik plays with quick footwork and covers good ground. He works to get behind the baseball and field it in a square position with soft hands. He has a long arm action throwing from a low 3/4 slot. He is working to play through the baseball and build his arm strength. Overall, Malik has a solid set of skills and good potential to get even better.

04/10/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Malik continues to show solid play in his baseball tools with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls. He attacks ground balls and plays through well with his body. Hands / feet work well together as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level as he shows good barrel accuracy through a line drive approach.

07/30/2015 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Malik is a lean OF that will graduate in 2017. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.83 60 time. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach as he works inside the ball to utilize all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 4. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He communicates and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to read balls better and work to get behind more to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he displays a great attitude, is very coachable, and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 2 years to further develop, Malik has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
