12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Williams is a very coachable player who has a drive & determination to improve. He worked very hard on his game during his time at Pirate City. In the OF, Malik hustles to his right and left to track down fly-balls. He secures the fly-ball with soft hands at it's highest point. A clean exchange leads to accurate throws into his target. Malik doesn't take a play off and hustles all over the field, backing up bases well. With the bat, this lefty shows a closed stance while working back into a loaded position. He has a good eye for the zone and battles (drawing 3 walks at the event). Shortening up his stride and hitting against a more firm front side while engaging his lower 1/2 will help to increase pop off of the barrel. On the mound, this LHP works to a controlled balance point and has smooth separation. He drives off of the rubber with his lower 1/2 downhill toward the plate. FB shows slight run topping out at 70 mph. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape with early action. Working to maintain the same arm speed on all of his pitches will help to improve effectiveness on the mound. This 2017 grad has a solid skill-set and should find success on the diamond.
