Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

07/31/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Malik is an athletic 2-way prospect who showed very well during his time at Pirate City. He improved in several areas of his game since we last saw him. He is a hard working kid who asks questions and makes adjustments quickly. At 2B, he shows active footwork with fluid/athletic actions. Hands are soft/sure funneling the ball into a quick transfer. Throws have zip as he has the ability to turn the DP effectively. With the bat, he maintains an athletic setup with rhythm to load. He is a top of the line-up type of guy while remaining selective and seeing pitches. Swing is on-plane as he has plus barrel control, spraying line-drives. On the mound, Wilson has a FB/CB mix. He has a sound delivery and repeats his mechanics well. FB tops out at 80 mph as he works to keep it down in the zone. CB has 10/4 shape with gradual break. A talented 2-way player, Malik is a leader when he steps onto the field, which is something every coach likes to see.

03/24/2019 - College PREP - Oklahoma City, OK Malik is an athletic 2B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.92. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 2B, he continues to shine as he displays clean / athletic actions. He utilizes his quick feet in his lateral movements, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Throws display accuracy with zip (85 mph velocity) to his target. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80 mph. Breaking ball sits from 65-68 mph with 11/5 shape with late break. Slider sits at 71-72 mph with late bite. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Malik has a lot of potential and is a sure player to follow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
