01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Marco is a versatile player that can play in the middle infield and pitch. At shortstop, Marco has good pre-pitch movement, presents his glove, and takes good angles on grounders to read the hops. Sticking his nose into grounders will help him not stab at balls, which he does at times. Also, improving his body control on slow rollers and not being narrow with his feet should help defensive grades. At the plate, Marco stays inside the baseball with his quick hands, displaying a middle-of-the-field approach. Relaxing at the plate will help loosen his grip and stiff back elbow, improving hitting grades. On the mound Marco is a competitor, don't tell him he's 5'9 because he's coming after you as a hitter. He has excellent leg drive and attacks the zone. He also fields his position extremely well due in part to his infield abilities. His fastball ranges from 78-83 mph on a slight downward plane. His curveball displays 10-4 shape and induces a lot of grounders. Marco also shows great feel for his change-up that fades at the plate. Having some glove side pull on his fastball and engaging his hips in his motion should help increase pitching grades and velocity. Overall, Marco is an athletic two-way player that will impress coaches at the next level.

10/23/2013 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Marcos continues to shine on the diamond. This smooth fielding SS moves effortlessly in the middle-infield. He presents his glove out in front and fields the ball cleanly moving from right to left through the baseball. He has a clean exchange and strong arm, firing the ball across the diamond. Offensively, Marcos displays a simple/quiet approach and waits for his pitch. He delivers the barrel through a short/direct swing path and puts the ball in play consistently. At the event, he went 3 for 8 with a double and 2 singles. Rios is a lead-off type guy who will make an impact on the diamond.

07/15/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Marco is a lean 2B that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.05 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range in the MIF. Feet are active as he plays through balls, displaying soft / sure hands. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Rios shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Marco has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
