07/07/2009 - College PREP - Apple Valley, MN Marcus is a young two-way player on the mound and at SS with a small frame that shows some projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Currently, he projects best on the mound. Delivery is sound showing in line direction with on time separation with solid tempo. Arm slot is from high ' and shows slightly above average arm strength. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. Fastball shows arm side run and locates to both side of the plate. Breaking ball displays an 11/5 shape with tight spin and early break. Changeup shows average feel with arm side run. He throws a cutter that has 10/4 short shape with tight spin. Foot speed is well below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are playable but limited in range and may be more suited for 3B at the next level. He needs to come get and play through ground balls more with his feet and hands. Defensive abilities are slightly above average in the IF. At the plate, O'Neil is a switch hitter that shows better from the right side. Hitting abilities are solid average from the right side and slightly above average from the left side. Power is average from both sides of the plate. From the right side, hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path gets long from the left side. Power will increase as he learns to load more and develop more overall body strength. With 2 years to further develop, Marcus has potential on the mound if more arm strength is developed.
