06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Marcus is a 1B who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame, well proportioned, and athletic build with a lot of room to fill out. At 1B, starts with active feet and good body control. Ability to pick out hops and make routine plays during games. Square fielding position as he tried to spin glove side on throws to second base. Short arm action into a 3/4 release point with accurate/on-line throws. A left-handed hitter, he hits from an athletic and even stance. Showed good balance at contact, with a flat barrel, and natural strength at contact. Showed pull side power and had a bat exit velocity of 93mph. Reached base 3 times in live game action. With continued development, we see him having a bright future on the baseball diamond.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Marcus is a strong 1B/C prospect who showed well during the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. At the plate, this LHH shows an advanced approach through an open setup. He gets into a small load and stays direct through the ball with fast bat speed, producing great gap to gap power. In the field, Marcus fields with a firm glove and has a clean exchange. He throws from a high 3/4 angle and makes accurate/on-line throws through his target. Overall, Marcus is a talented prospect who has the potential to be a real run producer at the next level.

09/02/2018 - National Tryout Plus - San Francisco, CA Marcus continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as well as shows smooth / clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but he will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/26/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Marcus continues to improve his game at C/RHP. Behind the plate, this C works hard as he likes to block everything in the dirt. He presents a low target and shows good instincts for being a young catcher. On the hill, this righty picks up his target early and delivers from a 3/4 arm slot. He uses his lower 1/2 to drive off the rubber as he works in line towards home plate. Offensively at the plate, Marcus hits from the left side with a tall/solid setup. He gets back into a load and likes to drive pitches to the opposite field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.74 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

02/21/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Marcus is a 2-way player (OF/1B) who has a stronger lower 1/2. In the OF, he takes good angles hustling to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and works in-line toward his target. At 1B - Marcus hustles around the GB and into a square fielding position. He tracks the ball into his mitt and makes the plays. He has a smooth transfer and gives good feeds on the DP. With the bat, this left has a solid setup with patience waiting for his pitch. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
